My name is Daniel Chillemi, and I am the Chef behind Dishes By Daniel. Born and raised in Southern Brooklyn I was always surrounded by a wide variety of different cuisines, so it was natural for me to become a food connoisseur at an early age, which inevitably propelled me into the world of culinary arts! Good cuisine is something special, it brings people together and above all, makes us happy!
I was also involved with the food industry in one way or another. After brief stints in certain local restaurants I finally decided to take my passion seriously. I wanted to learn from the “best of the best” which led me to a place where I could actually do so. For nine amazing months I trained in Italy, learning everything I possibly could to better my skills. The country was immensely inspiring. I soaked in as much culture as possible while also maintaining my duties as student. I had a true sense of accomplishment when I graduated in 2011 from The International Culinary Center to become a certified Chef. It was an unbelievable experience and I learned many techniques that I incorporate into my dishes today.
Ever since I can remember, I have always loved being in the kitchen. From helping my mother peel vegetables as a toddler, to cooking for my friends and family during the holidays; I grew up around it! It was only a matter of time until I decided that this was my undeniable passion!
Above all, I MAKE great tasting food because I enjoy EATING great tasting food! This is what I love to do, and if people can get enjoyment out of it, and also benefit their health, then I know that I am doing something right!
When I came back home to NYC from Italy, I landed a job at The 21 Club in Midtown Manhattan, which I was ecstatic about. For five years straight, I cooked and prepared meals for thousands of people and eventually rose through the ranks and became Sous-Chef.
Yet, I longed for something more.... Something that I could be proud of and call my own. I needed to follow my dream, and that aspiration has finally manifested into my company Dishes By Daniel. I had to take a shot, and it ended up being the best decision I have ever made! Now, with the help of my team, I have the ability to be a “personal chef” but on a grander scale.
